Support Notes > Adobe Reader Prompts For Administrator Password

Adobe Reader is an application for viewing, printing, searching and collaborating on PDF documents. However we recommend using Preview to open PDF documents because it is faster and easier to use.

You should use Preview but Adobe Reader is available for cases when a PDF cannot be opened with Preview. For example there are cases when Preview cannot open a PDF with chinese characters but Adobe Reader is able to.

If it is the first time you have run Adobe Reader it will prompt you for the administrator password. We cannot tell you what the password is therefore you will need to Contact Us. Please remember to use Adobe Reader only if Preview is not capable of opening the PDF documents you need.

The steps for making sure Preview opens the PDF document:

1. Save the PDF document(s) to the Desktop.

2. Open Preview which is found in Applications.

3. When Preview has opened, click on File > Open.

4. Select the PDF document you wish to open and click on Open.
